It was the day that changed their lives. Simple students – for the most part – they become the little fiancees of the French for a year, Miss France. An evening, a moment, an announcement that turns their fate upside down (obviously). We all know how it works. Like a big annual mass where our regional chauvinism is exacerbated, we observe these thirty young ladies presenting themselves and parading like princesses to perhaps acquire the status of queen. Thirty, then twelve and finally five finalists to access the coveted tricolor throne. The future Miss France and her runners-up make a final round of the podium dressed in sumptuous dresses, most of the time created by Nicolas Fafiotte. This dress remains iconic for each of the Miss France as it will be admired and scrutinized at each viewing of the coronation. Ecru bustier for Laury Thilleman in 2011, virginal dress for Sylvie Tellier in 2002, golden and puffy for Valérie Bègue in 2008 or mermaid blue for Iris Mittenaere, Miss France 2016. While a new young woman will be given the tiara this evening and succeed Vaimalama Chaves, return to the most beautiful dresses of Miss France who have seen so many tears of joy.
