New York Fashion Week Fall / Winter 2021-22: the preferred virtual platform but most of the big names absent
If New York has the possibility of offering parades or presentations for its women’s collections devoted to fall-winter 2021-22, the American fashion union has advised its members to opt for the virtual platform.
Most of the regulars of New York Fashion Week will not be showing during the four days of Fashion Week from February 14 to 17, with some choosing an off-calendar date, while others have yet to announce anything.
Among the big names in American fashion, only Tom Ford will present at the closing, on February 17, according to the calendar published by the American fashion union, the CFDA, of which the designer of Texan origin is the president.
Heavyweights like Ralph Lauren, Michael Kors, Marc Jacobs, Tommy Hilfiger, Pyer Moss or Tory Burch are, for the time being, totally absent, which usually constituted so many highlights of the New York week. Contacted by AFP, a spokesperson for Michael Kors indicated that the house had not yet determined “how we (were going) to present the fall collection”.
The privileged virtual
Unlike Paris Fashion Week, which is subject to a ban on organizing public events, New York has the option of offering parades or presentations, but the CFDA has advised its members to go virtual. Almost all of the collections will be presented online only, through the Runway360 platform launched last season by the CFDA. Some creators like Jason Wu (the 14th) or Rebecca Minkoff (the 16th) still opted for an event with a small audience.
The CFDA has published a “calendar of new American collections”, which brings together all the designers based in the United States, even if they have chosen to present after February 17, including elsewhere than in the United States. So outside the four days of official Fashion Week, we find Proenza Schouler (18th), Carolina Herrera (22nd February), Coach (23rd), Christian Siriano (25th) or Oscar de la Renta (2nd March) .
